Charlie H. Long, 92, went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, March 27th, 2011 in Duncan Regional Hospital. Services will be 2:00 PM Thursday in the First Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Jack Richey officiating and Pastor Mike King assisting. Interment will be in the Duncan Cemetery under the direction of the Bailes-Polk Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home from 5 - 6:30 PM on Wednesday. Charlie was born November 2nd, 1918 at Mill Creek, Oklahoma the son of John L. and Ida Lou Evans Long. He served in the United States Army from August 1937 to June 1945. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor and received two Bronze Service Stars, AP Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon and an American Defense Service Ribbon. He and Clara Gertrude Wilson were married at Clayton, New Mexico on August 15, 1945 and were married over 65 years. He worked as a roughneck in the oil field, was a horseshoer (farrier), and worked in maintenance for the Duncan Medical Center. He enjoyed attending the Duncan North Nutrition Center and delivered meals from the Duncan North to the Douglas Center for 17 years. He was a faithful member of the First Free Will Baptist Church for 57 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Paul Long, and two brothers, Roy and Carl Walker. Survivors include his wife, Clara Gertrude "Gertie" Long, of the home; a daughter, Charlene Disney, and her husband Jeff Spencer, of Stuttgart, Germany; two grandchildren, Leanna Matthews, of Duncan and Michael Paul Long, and his wife Stacy, of Parker, Colorado; five great grandchildren, Charles Shults, Craig Matthews and Alexandra Matthews, all of Duncan and Payton Long and Carson Long, both of Parker, Colorado; a great great granddaughter, Charlie Ann Shults, of Duncan; a daughter-in-law, Karen Long, of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; two sister-in-laws, Fern Wilson, of Duncan and Virdean Wilson, of Velma as well as several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Pallbearers will be Charles Shults, Craig Matthews, Rusty Fenske, Dan Wilson, Jerry Harrell, and James Cox. Honorary pallbearers will be Pleasant Foster, Ray Campbell, and Marion Pollock.
