Charlene Litke

d. December 16, 2022

Charlene Litke was born January 28, 1936, in Homer, Oklahoma to Charles and Ella Stevens. She passed from this world and entered life forever at 4:20 PM on December 16, 2022.

Charlene was a dedicated mother and worker. She met the love of her life, Bill Litke in 1952 in Davis, Oklahoma and they were married two years later in Hennepin, Oklahoma. She worked for Halliburton Services, Halliburton Credit Union and the Soil Conservation Service for many years and capped off her career by working at Wingo Grocery in Hennepin, Oklahoma for over 25 years. She and Bill were seldom more than a few minutes apart from each other. Their love for building and remodeling led them to live in many different houses in Great Bend and McPherson, Kansas and in Duncan, Davis, and Hennepin, Oklahoma and led them return to Duncan in 2003.

Her children and grandchildren will miss her wonderful cooking, baking and quilt making. Most of all they will miss her prayers. She was known for her love for making peanut brittle, fried pies and Italian Cream and Pistachio Nut cakes to help support whatever church they were in. She and Bill were never satisfied with just sitting around but spent their time working to make sure their home was well maintained and that others were well taken care of.

Some of her favorite things to do were to pick up pecans from the trees on the side of her house, go for daily walks with her friend, Paula Riddle, and to read the Bible. Until the last couple of years, she would read her Bibles (a different version each time) up to eight times a year.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, Bill Litke, her father, Charles Stevens; her mother, Ella Stevens; two sisters, Peggy Wingo and Mary Joyce Pool; and one brother, Dan Stevens. Survivors include two sons and a daughter and their families; Ron Litke and his wife, Londa, of Duncan, Oklahoma, Ronda Carter and her husband, Ross, of Buda, Texas, and John Litke and his wife, Julene, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one brother and one sister and their families; Steve Stevens and Stephynne Stevens, nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

We owe much gratitude to her caretakers over the last several months from Accentra (Lisa, Lisa, Rosie, Teresa, Nathan, Shauna, and Alyssa) and to Melody Ray for her constant care.

Services will be 10:00 AM Monday in the Duncan United Pentecostal Church with Reverend Randall Pitts officiating. Interment will follow in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of the Bailes-Polk Funeral Home.
