Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Lana Valk
A Journey of Compassion, Leadership, and Unwavering Love
Born on October 1, 1954, as Lana Carol Schweinberg, Lana Valk entered the world as the cherished first child of Mr. and Mrs. Schweinberg. From her earliest days, Lana's position as the eldest of four siblings shaped much of her character and the trajectory of her life. Being "first" was not simply a matter of birth order-it was an invitation to lead, to nurture, and to set the tone for those who followed.
As a child, Lana was known to practice her innate leadership and caring spirit on her younger siblings, guiding them through the complexities of childhood with gentle hands and a steady heart. Her home was a place of learning and laughter, and Lana's example set the standard in both education and beliefs within the household. Her presence was commanding yet tender, and her siblings quickly learned that Lana was someone to look up to-not just because she was the eldest, but because she lived by values that inspired those around her.
Lana's pursuit of knowledge was woven into every stage of her life. Her formative years saw her attend seminary school, a choice that reflected her deep commitment to strengthening her relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The time she spent immersed in faith and study offered Lana not only spiritual growth but also a foundation upon which she built her life's purpose. The lessons she learned from scripture and fellowship informed the way she approached challenges, relationships, and the world itself.
Education did not stop at spirituality; Lana was equally passionate about academic achievement. In the 1990s, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, a testament to her drive and perseverance. This accomplishment opened new doors, allowing Lana to wear many hats over the course of her career. Whether leading a team, managing a household, or guiding young minds, her education empowered her to serve as an example of diligence and adaptability.
Lana Valk's life was a celebration of beauty in all things-great and small. She found joy in the simple pleasures of everyday living, whether that meant caring for her family, tending to friends, or nurturing her beloved animals. Her home was a sanctuary for all, filled with warmth, laughter, and the ever-present comfort of her gentle spirit.
Gardening was one of Lana's favorite pastimes, a way for her to connect with nature and cultivate life. She took delight in watching seeds grow, transforming patches of earth into vibrant displays of color and fragrance. The outdoors beckoned to her in countless ways; Lana reveled in activities such as grilling, boating, skiing, and swimming. Each adventure was an opportunity to create cherished memories and to share the wonders of the world with those she loved.
To know Lana was to know someone who was always in motion, always doing something for someone else. Her generosity extended far beyond her immediate family, encompassing friends, neighbors, and even strangers who needed a helping hand. Lana was a loving protector-the kind of person who instinctively knew when a word of kindness, a steady hand, or gentle correction was needed. She made everyone feel heard and seen, and her compassion was the glue that bound her community together.
Her influence was felt in moments big and small. Lana was the one people turned to in times of celebration and in times of sorrow. She could be counted on for steadfast support and wise counsel, always ready to offer encouragement or help resolve a difficult situation. Her laughter filled rooms, her wisdom guided hearts, and her unwavering faith in humanity lifted spirits.
Of all the roles Lana embraced, none was more precious to her than that of motherhood. In July 1993, her son Connor was born-a light in Lana's life and the fulfillment of her deepest dreams. Motherhood was her greatest treasure, her niche, and she wore it with pride and grace. Lana poured her heart into raising Connor, nurturing him with love, support, and the kind of guidance that comes only from a truly devoted parent.
The joy of her family grew as she welcomed grandchildren into her life. In December 2015, CJ arrived, followed by Cora in October 2021. These beloved grandchildren became the heartbeat of Lana's existence. Every moment spent with CJ and Cora was cherished-a chance to pass on lessons, share laughter, and create memories that would last a lifetime.
Life brought both joy and sorrow, and Lana navigated these extremes with remarkable strength. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Steve and Jerry McKellips, her mother Shirley Jean Donwerth, and her husband Clinton Avis Stafford. These losses weighed heavily on Lana, but she found solace in faith, family, and the enduring bonds with those still by her side.
Lana's legacy continues through her surviving family: Connor Valk and his wife Brittani, along with her grandchildren CJ and Cora, all of whom reside in Duncan, Oklahoma. Her brother Tony Kelser and his three children; Austin Charles Kelser, Brooke Abigail Kelser, and Ava Kathryn Kelser, of Edmond, Oklahoma, remain close. Sister-in-law Julianne McKellips, niece Penny McKellips Melendez (with husband Tommy Melendrez), nephew Sean McKellips, and nephew Benjamin McKellips.
Lana's circle of love stretched far beyond bloodlines. Among her dearest friends is Ann, a companion of 50 years, whose friendship was a cornerstone of Lana's life. Her Godson, Joe Michael Smith, and a host of great nieces, nephews, and friends who were like family, all share in the legacy of Lana's love.
It is impossible to capture the entirety of Lana Valk's life in mere words. Her impact was felt in countless ways, each day lived with purpose, compassion, and joy. Lana taught those around her to cherish every moment, to seek out the beauty in the world, and to serve others selflessly.
Through her faith, her education, her unwavering devotion to family, and her zest for life, Lana embodied the qualities of a true leader and nurturer. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness, a blueprint for living fully and giving freely.
As her family, friends, and community remember Lana, they carry forth her spirit in their own lives, striving to lead by example, to nurture those around them, and to find meaning every day. Lana Valk's story is such a thread, a brilliant line running through the lives of her loved ones, illuminating the path for all who follow. Her legacy will endure, not only in memories and stories, but in the actions and values of those she inspired.
