Larry Gene Woods, 79, of Marlow, Oklahoma, passed from this life on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at Comanche County Memorial Hospital.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 21, 2026.
Larry was born on February 26, 1947, in Valdosta, Georgia, to Joe and Ruby Arnold Woods. He attended and was baptized at Lake Hill Baptist Church in Orlando, Florida. He was known for his strength, steady presence, work ethic, and deep love for his family. Throughout his life, he touched many people with his wisdom, quiet generosity, and warm sense of humor.
He graduated from Evans High School in Orlando, Florida and later graduated from Oklahoma Horseshoeing School. He also studied animal science and taught hoof care education at the University of Florida. Larry proudly served his country in the United States Navy for five years.
A man of remarkable intelligence and innovation, Larry built the first thermal desorption unit in existence in 1987, leaving a lasting mark through his ingenuity and hard work. He was respected not only for his talents and determination, but also for his ability to turn ideas into reality.
Larry had a true love for adventure and the outdoors. He enjoyed land clearing, riding and training horses, alligator hunting and fishing. He also loved a good game of blackjack and never turned down the chance to share stories and laughter with family and friends.
Larry shared nearly ten years of marriage with his beloved wife, Ashley Woods. Together, they built a life filled with love, companionship, and cherished memories. His family meant everything to him and he treasured time spent with those he loved most.
Larry attended First Assembly of Lawton where he found community and faith and deeply admired Pastor Kyle Johnson.
Those who knew Larry will remember the warmth he brought to a room, the stories he shared, his adventurous and hard working spirit. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, service, innovation and devotion that will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Ashley Woods of Marlow, Oklahoma; his children, Danny Woods and wife Judy of Monticello, Florida, Dustin Woods of Monticello, Florida, Aisley Smith of Marlow, Oklahoma, and London Smith of Marlow, Oklahoma; his granddaughter, Maliah Woods of Monticello, Florida; his sister, Patricia Niesen of Pensacola, Florida; his brother, John Woods of Clermont, Florida. He is predeceased by his son, Eric, his sisters Joy and Marion and brothers George and Donald. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
