Mary Earline Atchison was born December 23rd, 1935 in Webber's Falls, Oklahoma to Claude and Bertha Rogers Hinds, the youngest of her siblings, and departed this life on February 25th, 2025 to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Mary attended Sims Grade School, named after her Grandmother, Mary Hinds Sims. The family later moved to Grove, Oklahoma where she was active in their award winning music program and was also a cheerleader for the Grove Ridgerunners. Most of all, Mary was happiest when she became a Christian and an active member of Grove's First Baptist Church.
Following graduation, Mary was employed by Southwestern Bell, for whom she worked in Tulsa, Oklahoma City, and Kansas City.
On June 16, 1957 she was married at First Baptist Church, Grove, to Robert (Bob) John Atchison of Afton, Oklahoma. The couple moved to Kansas City, MO where Bob was employed by Cities Service Oil Company and later Gulf Oil company. While in Kansas City, Mary and Bob were blessed with a daughter, Dana Lynn, and a son, Robert Dean.
In 1963, the family moved to Duncan, Oklahoma and filled their lives with church, their children's school activities, and made many life-long friends.
In 1976, Bob was transferred to Tulsa, and the family settled in Claremore where they lived until Bob's retirement in 1989. Mary joined Victory Baptist Church where she volunteered with their youth programs. She also was employed at Roger's State College in their Communication Center. Mary helped coordinate concerts in and out of town for the Music Department and became a second mom to many of the students-friendships which have endured over the years.
In 1989, Mary and Bob returned to Duncan, and Mary became an active member of Harvest Hills Baptist Church. Later she became a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Marlow, OK. Mary wants to acknowledge her dear friends that have remained close to her heart over the years.
Mary especially loved preparing large meals for her family, canning plum jelly for them and others each year, as well as maintaining her own daily devotional times of Scripture reading and prayer (and she maintained a list!) Oh, and Go Kansas City Chiefs!
Bob preceded Mary in death after a sudden illness on September 27th, 1991, and was laid to rest in Mount Hope Cemetery, Afton, Oklahoma.
Mary is survived by daughter, Dana Lynn Grogan and her husband Patrick of Tulsa, and son Robert Dean Atchison of Oklahoma City, OK.
