Paul D. Bertram's soul and spirit escaped his aging body Sunday, May 31st, 2015 to meet his Jesus who he loved so much. He departed this life in the Lawton Veterans Center at the age of 97 years. Interment services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday in the Ft, Sill National Veterans Cemetery with Reverend Jeff McLemore officiating. Military Honors will be conferred by the Stephens County Honors Team and the service will be escorted by the Patriot Guard Riders. Memorial services will then be held at 2:00 PM in the Bethel Assembly of God Church with Reverend Jeff McLemore and Reverend Ron Meador officiating. Services are under the direction of the Bailes-Polk Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home from 6-8 PM Tuesday. Paul was born August 27, 1917 at Oxly, Missouri the son of John Alexander and Cora (Womack) Bertram. He and Carol Amanda Gordon were married at Kansas City, Missouri on July 12, 1942 and she preceded him in death on Monday, December 15, 2008. He served in the United State Army from 1943 to 1945. He served in the East Indies and New Guinea. He received the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and two Bronze Stars. He lived in Oklahoma City in the Village for 51 years coming to Duncan in 2008 to live with his daughter. He always had a servants heart. He loved to fish, work in the garden, hunt, play card, watch birds and spend time with his family. He was a member of the Hope Christian Center in Oklahoma City. He was also preceded in death by his parents, 2, brothers, two sisters and a grandchild. Survivors include his son Ron Bertram of Hugoton, Kansas; two daughters Janet Rucker and her husband Charles of Duncan, Oklahoma and Nancy McLemore and her husband Jeff of Waurika; twelve grandchildren and twenty one great grandchildren.
