Obituary

Velma Christine (Sheppeard) Fletcher was born October 6, 1936, to Melvin Mill Roy Sheppeard and Velva Reen (Gamblin) Sheppeard, at their home near Hulen, Oklahoma. She went to meet her Lord and Savior on January 14, 2026 in Duncan, Oklahoma.

She was known to family and friends as Christine, Chris, Aunt Tene, or Tene Tene. She attended school at Empire.

In June 1953, Christine married Lee Roy Fletcher and together they had one son.

Christine worked at Gibson's in Duncan for 27 years, most of which was running the "Flower" department, until retiring in 2005.

Christine was a faithful and devoted follower of Christ. She lived for her family, friends, and to Serve her Lord and Savior. She was often referred to as a "Prayer Warrior" by many members of the church. Throughout her life, Christine served the church in many roles including, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Secretary, and Women's Ministry President, but was never too proud to take on other duties like cleaning the church. Christine also enjoyed gardening, canning, making flower arrangements and cooking. She was well known for her cooking, baking, her delicious fried pies and amazing Coconut Cream Pies. Her legacy was clearly one of service, dedication, and cherished family traditions.

Christine was preceded in death by her father and mother, siblings, Dorothy (Sheppeard) Altman, Ruthie (Sheppeard) Goodin, Eugene Sheppeard, and grandson in law Alex Mitchell, along with several brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces, and nephews.

Christine is survived by her son Danny Fletcher, Sr. and wife Tracie of Ratliff City, Oklahoma, grandkids Danny Fletcher Jr. and wife Andi of Argyle, Texas, Tony Fletcher and wife Dita of Aubrey, Texas, Brittany Mitchell of Ratliff City, Oklahoma, and Lizzabeth Wren of Duncan, Oklahoma, great grandkids Dace Fletcher of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Aidan Fletcher of Abiline, Texas, and Emory Patterson of Argyle, Texas. Also surviving Christine are two brothers, Carlis Sheppeard and wife Yvonne, and Leon Sheppeard as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was loved very much, and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Viewing and meeting family will be from 5-7 PM Friday, January 16, 2026 at Bailes Polk Funeral Home located at 910 W. Oak Ave. in Duncan, Ok. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Saturday in the Bethesda Church of God located at 201 South 15th Street in Duncan, Ok.
