On May 13, 1950, in Duncan, Oklahoma, Von Dearle Harris "Peanut" was born to Sylvester Harris and Mary "Helen" Jones (Scott "S.T." Buycks). He is the oldest of five children.
Von grew up in Duncan. He attended Douglas Schools and graduated from Duncan High School in 1968. Von accepted Christ at an early age. He was baptized and attended The Church of Living God under the direction of Elder Herbert Jenkins and later attended Stone Chapel C.M.E. under the direction of Pastor Timothy McGee.
